Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions in life and determines in what environment and how almost half of life will be spent. Therefore, people may often experience indecision and anxiety during this decision-making process. This situation, which is usually experienced by high school students, can actually be observed frequently in adults.
While students worry about their field of study, adults begin to question their unhappy work lives and the profession they think they made the wrong decision in the past, but despite being unhappy with the financial returns, they may not be able to decide what step to take regarding this issue.
In vocational interest and career counseling, while the interests of individuals are revealed, the degree to which their personalities are compatible with these interests is examined and the person’s decision-making process is supported. In this process, objective and subjective personality tests and vocational interest inventories are used and the person is guided within the scope of the results. The effect of personality on the profession is very important. For example, an extroverted social person may be very unhappy working in front of a computer all day, while an introverted person may be happy in such a job. For this reason, when the activities of the professions, the ideal employee portfolio, the personality traits and interests of the client are evaluated in this context, it is possible to achieve person/profession compatibility.
Some people are stuck between several professions and do not want to choose one over the other. In this case, in addition to the profession, it is discussed how other areas that are of interest and love, even if not done professionally, can be integrated into life and arrangements are made accordingly. When all these are considered, both young people and adults can have the opportunity to spend this time period, in which at least 5 days of the week are spent, happier and more satisfying.
