It is an anxiety attack in which there is intense fear and anxiety, which starts suddenly, the discomfort reaches its highest level within 10 minutes at the latest, and at least four of the following symptoms are present.
- Palpitations, increased heart rate, feeling like you can hear heart sounds
- Sweating
- A trembling or shaking sensation
- Feelings of suffocation or breathlessness, feeling of not being able to breathe enough
- Feelings of choking and shortness of breath
- Chest pain or a feeling of discomfort in the chest
- Nausea or abdominal pain or discomfort
- Dizziness, unsteadiness, feeling dizzy, fainting, feeling like falling
- A state of feeling that the environment is different than it is, as if it is not real, or perceiving oneself as separated from others, in an unusual, different way.
- A fear of losing control, of going crazy
- At that moment, the fear of having a heart attack or dying
- Numbness, insensitivity, burning, tingling sensations
- Chills, shivers, cold or hot flushes, feeling like boiling water has been poured on your head or you have entered a Turkish bath
It is a disorder in which panic attacks occur suddenly, unexpectedly and repeatedly, and there is a constant anxiety for at least 1 month that these attacks will recur, and there is anxiety about what one thinks may happen at the end of the attack (such as dying, going crazy, having a heart attack), or making changes in some of one’s behaviors related to these attacks. This disorder is not due to another substance use, or another physical or mental disorder.
